In the folk event of Nishikiri in Shinjo Town, each household creates and displays works under the eaves or at the entrance, using vegetables and flowers, based on fairy tales or auspicious motifs. It is said to have originated long ago as an offering to the Gion Festival at Ogata Shrine, to pray for protection from summer epidemics.
