Kyoto Aquarium: Jellyfish, Umbrellas, and Wind Chimes
京都水族館 くらげと傘と風鈴と
This is a limited-time event where you can experience the charms of various types of jellyfish through approximately 170 handmade jellyfish-themed wind chimes and Kyoto umbrellas painted with jellyfish.
Inspired by the 18 species of jellyfish bred at Kyoto Aquarium, artisans at the long-established Edo-period Kyoto umbrella shop "Hiyoshiya" have individually hand-painted Kyoto umbrellas in ink and color, in collaboration with "TAKU GLASS," a glass specialty store from Niigata Prefecture, which created the "jellyfish wind chimes." The result is truly impressive.
■ Take a photo with a "Mini Kyoto Umbrella"! (Image 3)
This year, mini Kyoto umbrellas will be available for limited-time photo sessions! Only after 4 p.m. on weekdays, commemorative mini umbrellas will be available on the second-floor terrace. You can hold a mini umbrella painted with jellyfish and take pictures together with the "jellyfish wind chimes" and "jellyfish Kyoto umbrellas." Don’t miss the chance to capture your visit. (After 4 p.m. on weekdays ※ Not available from August 12th (Tue) to 15th (Fri).)
■ Magical summer night illuminations (Image 4)
After 5 p.m., the "jellyfish wind chimes" and "jellyfish Kyoto umbrellas" on the second-floor terrace will be lit up, creating a dreamlike summer evening atmosphere.
Be sure to visit Kyoto Aquarium and experience a taste of Japanese summer.
