Bisha Festival
武射祭
The Bisha Festival is a traditional ceremony held every January 4th at Nikkō Futarasan Shrine Chūgūshi in Nikkō City, Tochigi Prefecture. This event is a Shinto ritual dating back to the Muromachi period, known for its fierce practice of shooting arrows towards Mount Akagi. Participants include Shinto priests and archers, who carry on this tradition and savor the heroic atmosphere.
Within the area, visitors can enjoy the historical beauty of Nikkō Futarasan Shrine and the beautiful scenery by the lakeside. In this place where Nikkō's rich nature and culture intertwine, you can spend unforgettable moments.
As a limited experience of this festival, visitors can watch archers' splendid skills from designated areas, and enjoy special moments that are not usually experienced.
If you plan to visit, it is recommended to arrive early to fully enjoy the festival atmosphere. Stroll around the shrine area, savor local specialties, and embrace the special feeling of welcoming the New Year along with the archery ceremony.
