Kodomo Gohan-shiki

子供強飯式
The Kodomo Gohan-shiki is a unique ritual held in Nikko City, acknowledged as an intangible folk cultural asset. This ritual, aimed at praying for good health and a bountiful harvest, features local boys appearing as traditional Yamabushi and Kouriki, accompanied by the sounds of conch shells and drums, demonstrating their presence. The traditional event takes place at Iko Shrine, providing a special setting where history and culture intertwine. Participants can witness the brave performances of the boys during the ritual and see how they carry on the region's traditions. The powerful sounds of drums and conch shells during the ceremony draw visitors into ancient Japan. This event is exclusive and can only be experienced during this time, offering an excellent opportunity to delve deep into the area's history and traditions. Visitors are recommended to arrive early in the morning at the shrine to enjoy all the ceremonies thoroughly. Do not miss this once-in-a-lifetime moment to feel the culture alongside the locals.
