The symbol of summer for Numazu Nakamise Shopping Street is the "Tanabata Festival." The shopping street is colorfully decorated with Tanabata decorations. Every year, the arcade features "bamboo leaf decorations" about 6 meters high, created by kindergartens and nursery schools, with "giant streamers" and "Tanabata decorations" hanging from the arcade ceiling. There's also the "Everyone's Mega Tanzaku" made in collaboration with elementary schools, as well as displays of selected works from the Tanabata Senryu Contest and 1.8m×1.8m panel paintings by high school students, amongst a variety of events throughout the period.
