As a popular event among many citizens during Obon, known as "Okuribi" and "Shourou Nagashi," more than a thousand lanterns are floated each year to the sounds of memorial services. The beautiful sight of lanterns quietly drifting along the river has become one of Numazu's seasonal traditions.
