The Fukaya Tanabata Festival has its roots in the "Star Festival" that was held during the Edo period when the area was a post town. It is held annually in July and, as one of Fukaya City's major festivals, it attracts many tourists every year. During the festival, a section of City Hall Street and the Nakasendo becomes a pedestrian-only zone, decorated with colorful kusudama ornaments, bamboo branches, and creative decorations.
