Kosuge Grand Festival (National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset: Hashiramatsu Saito Ritual)

小菅の例大祭(国重要無形民俗文化財・柱松柴燈神事)
It is the main Shinto ritual of Kosuge Shrine, and it used to be held every year on July 15. Nowadays, it is conducted once every three years, on a Sunday in mid-July. It is also called "Kosuge no Matsuko." Various other rituals are also held. The next event will take place in 2028. Cultural Property: Nationally Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property
- The "Hashiramatsu Shidō Shinji" at Kosuge Shrine is a traditional fire festival held once every three years on a Sunday in mid-July, and the next event will take place on July 20, 2025. - In this ritual, children aged 5 to 7, called "Matsumikko", use flint on top of two pine pillars, and depending on which side ignites first, they divine "peace throughout the land" or "a bountiful harvest." - The "Hashiramatsu Shidō Shinji" is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, and is a precious traditional event held at Kosuge Shrine in Iiyama City, Nagano Prefecture.
