In ancient times, the provincial governors visited the shrine, and during the Edo period, the Date family, lords of the Sendai Domain, served as the chief priests for this important festival. On the day of the festival, salt made through the Moshioyaki ritual is also offered. In addition to the main shrine festival, various other Shinto rituals are performed.
