Ushiku Kappa Festival
うしくかっぱ祭り
The Ushiku Kappa Festival is the largest festival in Ushiku City, having started in 1981, and is held annually on the final Saturday and Sunday of July. At the main venue, Hanamizuki Street, the chant of "Yappe, yappe" echoes throughout, and the highlight is the "Kappa Bayashi Odori Parade," where dancers perform comical dances in a unique rhythm. More than 10,000 dancers parade through the streets. In addition, the festival features lively events such as the "Performance Dance Parade," where local elementary school students dance, and the "Yosakoi Naruko Dance Parade," performed by students from Toyo University Ushiku High School Dance Club.
