LE MATO 24 Tub-Paddling Endurance Race

LE MATO 24 たらいこぎ耐久レース
Masuda Town has long been a region known for sake brewing. It is said that the origin of "Tarai Kogi" dates back to when young workers from sake breweries, half in jest, would ride on sake barrels—normally floated on ponds to prevent their "hoops" from loosening—and compete to see who was the fastest. Following the "Tarai Kogi Competition," which has been held at the spring Sakura Festival in Makoto Park since the Taisho era, this event is now also held as a summer event. On the day of the event, a heated endurance race takes place on a special course set up on the Makoto Park pond, with teams competing to see how many laps they can complete in 24 minutes.
