The Fukiage Summer Festival is a traditional Gion Festival with a history of over 180 years. It is divided into the “Upper Group” and the “Lower Group,” with each group’s portable shrines and floats parading through the crowds of spectators. The streets around Fukiage Station, Fukiage Shrine, and the Nakasendo area are opened up as pedestrian zones, and visitors can enjoy a variety of events such as Yosakoi Soran and belly dancing. At night, the illuminated floats create a fantastic and magical atmosphere.
