The festival features twelve elaborately decorated floats and stalls parading through the city while lively Kumagaya hayashi music is played. The origin of the name "Uchiwa Festival" comes from the grand festival of Yasaka Shrine, where long ago, during the festival period, uchiwa fans were given to guests as a service.
