Every year on June 30: Ceremony 11:00–12:15, Naorai luncheon 12:30–14:00
Ōmi Jingū Banquet Festival
近江神宮饗宴祭
At this festival, special offerings of Omi Province’s local specialties—imagined as dishes served on the dining tables of the ancient Ōmi Ōtsu Palace and Ōtsu-kyo—are presented as divine foods, commemorating the heyday of the Ōtsu Palace. Held on June 30th during the 'Nagoshi' mid-year purification, which divides the year into two, it also serves as a prayer for good health and protection from illness through the summer.
In addition to adult officials of the Daizen-shoku (Imperial kitchen), over 20 kindergarten children participate as little attendants, offering divine foods. At the Seiwa Shijo-ryu kitchen ceremony, abalone is prepared.
After the rites, at the 'Naorai' luncheon, guests can enjoy medicinal cuisine of the 'Nagoshi' Festival to promote health and happiness, and be entertained with performances under the concept of “singing and playing with the gods.”
