Taga Taisha Mantō Festival

多賀大社 万灯祭
This is a lantern-offering festival to express gratitude to the enshrined deity, the princess goddess Izanami-no-Mikoto, who presides over the underworld of Yomi. With over ten thousand lanterns arranged in more than a dozen tiers and mounted on tall poles, the spectacle is truly magnificent and famed as a summer feature of the Lakeside Country. Throughout the three days on the shrine grounds, performances such as sarugaku theater, the Taga Ondo dance, and live music are held, attracting many visitors who come to enjoy the evening cool and festive atmosphere.
