Manto Festival

万灯祭
Every year from August 3 to 5, a three-day festival is held at Taga Taisha. The festival honors the deity Izanami no Mikoto, who is regarded as the guardian of Yomi, and prays for the protection of ancestral spirits in the afterlife. More than ten thousand lanterns donated by believers from all over Japan adorn the shrine grounds. Under these lanterns, various festive and religious events take place over the three days. Beneath a star-filled night sky, you are invited to cool off and visit during the summer evenings.
