Togo Gion Festival
多古祇園祭
The Tago Gion Festival is a summer tradition in Tago Town that has continued since the Edo period and is held every year on July 25th and 26th.
Alongside the festive hayashi music, floats are paraded through the four town districts of Honcho, Shinmachi, Nakamachi, and Takane. On the same days, the folk performing art "Shiikago Mai" is also dedicated, with wishes for bountiful harvests, good health, and the prosperity of descendants. Young men wearing masks of lions, deer, and tree frogs dance, and perform acrobatics known as "Tsugume" atop pillars, bringing excitement to summer in Tago Town.
