The 3rd Arai Tanabata Festival 2025
第3回あらい七夕まつり2025
The 3rd Arai Tanabata Festival is a summer tradition held around Arai Station in Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture. As soon as you step off the train, people dressed in yukata gather throughout the shopping district, and the city is brightened by colorful Sendai-style Tanabata decorations handmade by children. This festival was started with the hope of revitalizing the local community, and this year, new creative ideas have been incorporated as well.
The main venue is the plaza next to Arai Station and the shopping street in front of the station. Not only is it beautifully decorated, but there are also local food stalls and stage events, creating a lively atmosphere as you walk through the area. There are plenty of workshops for children and local gourmet foods, making it enjoyable for families as well.
This year, a special section will be set up where participants can write their wishes on tanzaku (wish strips) and hang them up. In the evening, there will also be participatory events unique to this festival, such as a parade featuring visitors dressed in yukata.
If you visit, be sure to wear a yukata, write your wish, and become a part of this town’s “Tanabata.” You’re sure to make wonderful summer memories.
