Yanase Takashi Exhibition: Life is a Game of Pleasing

やなせたかし展 人生はよろこばせごっこ

A comprehensive exhibition of Takashi Yanase (1919-2013), the creator of Anpanman. As a manga artist, poet, picture book author, illustrator, designer, and editor, Yanase was a multifaceted artist and a supreme entertainer. He considered "bringing joy to people" as the greatest joy of his life.

Through harsh war experiences, farewells with family, and encounters with various people, Yanase constantly questioned himself, "Why was I born, and what should I live for?" The answer he came to was a hero who, even if not cool, can give a piece of bread, an "Anpan (a Japanese sweet roll most commonly filled with red bean paste)," to someone truly in need.

This exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Takashi Yanase Memorial Anpanman Museum in 2026, focusing on approximately 200 original works. It explores themes such as "Full Analysis of Takashi Yanase," "Manga," "Poetry," "Picture Books/Yanase Fantasy," and "Anpanman." Be sure to see these works that continue to give us courage. (This exhibition is scheduled to tour nationwide.)
