The Floating Doll Festival of the Omoi River

思川の流しびな
The "Floating Dolls on Omoi River" held on the first Sunday of every July is a summer tradition in Oyama City and an event rich in tradition. Adults and children dressed in yukata place paper dolls on straw boats and let them float on the Omoi River, entrusting their wishes. This event has been ongoing for half a century, featuring dolls in both Japanese and Western styles, accompanied by strips of paper with written wishes. The location of the event is along the banks of the Omoi River downstream from the Kanoko Bridge. Access: It's about an 8-minute walk from JR Utsunomiya Line's Oyama Station. The event features various paper dolls made of Japanese paper and a cultural aspect of wish-making. As a unique and limited feature, there may be workshops where participants can make their own dolls. Visitors are encouraged to craft their own dolls and send them with special sentiments.

Place:Under Kanko Bridge along Omigawa River (west side of Oyama City Hall)

Transportation:About 8 minutes on foot from the west exit of JR Utsunomiya Line Oyama Station\nAbout 20 minutes from Sano Fujioka IC on Tohoku Expressway
