Grand Goma Fire Ritual
柴燈大護摩
At the Goma fire ritual, affectionately called "Goma-san", over 50,000 worshippers gather to pray for household safety, abundant harvests, and bountiful catches, making it one of the three major Goma rituals in Japan. This year, seven Goma rituals will be held. Incidentally, the temple's official name is Kyōōzan Jingūji Hōkongō-in, a Shingon sect temple said to have been founded by Gyōki on the imperial order of Emperor Shōmu during the Tenpyō era (729-749).
