Sekku Festival & Yabusame

節句祭・流鏑馬
At the National Treasure-designated Naomura Shrine, a magnificent yabusame festival is held every May 5 to pray for children’s healthy growth and a bountiful harvest. The ceremony begins around 3:00 PM with the mikoshi (portable shrine) parading energetically around the shrine grounds. Afterwards, three targets are set up in the horse-riding grounds before the rōmon gate, designated an Important Cultural Property, and mounted warriors ride the sacred horses, galloping boldly and shooting each target in succession. Many parishioners and visitors from nearby gather at the grounds, and when a target is hit, enthusiastic cheers erupt.
