Yamaga Festival
山あげ祭
The Yamaga Festival is a glamorous outdoor Kabuki dance event centered around the "Karasuyama's Yamaga Event," which boasts a history of over 460 years. This is a very rare traditional event nationwide in Japan, held on the fourth weekend of July in Nasukarasuyama City, Tochigi Prefecture. It's accessible on foot from Karasuyama Station.
In the main event, against the backdrop of the iconic local streetscape, actors in colorful, luxurious costumes perform Kabuki plays, accompanied by vibrant stage decorations. Spectators can feel the impact up close. Additionally, at night, the dance becomes even more enchanting under the fantastical atmosphere illuminated by lights.
The festival also features limited special ceremonies and a market showcasing local specialties, allowing visitors to enjoy a full day without boredom.
As a tourist, it's recommended not only to fully enjoy the historical stage performances but also to experience a slice of local cuisine and culture, with the nighttime illuminated stage being a must-see.
