The Yamaage Festival is a gorgeous and extravagant outdoor theater performance that has been handed down for over 460 years as an offering event for the Yakumo Shrine Grand Festival. Not only is the brilliant Kabuki dance a highlight, but the perfectly coordinated teamwork of the young men supporting it is also a must-see. In December 2016, the "Karasuyama Yamaage Event" was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage together with other "Yama, Hoko, Yatai Festivals" throughout Japan.
