At the time when Muchin Bridge was first established long ago, Gion Shrine was relocated to this area and is enshrined as the deity of Muchin Bridge, the guardian of traffic safety on the Nakasendo Road, and the deity protecting the Aichigawa River. The Gion Summer Festival fireworks display is an event dedicated to expressing gratitude to the deities. It has continued since the Edo period and boasts the oldest history in the Kotō region.
