The Oharae Ceremony and the New Year's Eve Festival are traditional events held every year on the night of New Year's Eve at Toyomitsu Shrine. Beginning late at night, after offering prayers of gratitude to the deities for the past year, a solemn ritual to purify oneself of impurity and sins follows. By the time this ceremony is finished, the new year has just begun.
