Mandō Fire Festival

まんどう火祭り
As a fire festival offered on August 15 as the Bon welcome and send-off fire, it features children aged seven to fifteen as the main participants. The sacred flame received at Shiratori Shrine is transferred to torches called "Mimizu," and in a relay, participants race down from Mantoyama to Doyashiki. The seven-year-old torches are called "Hatsu-Taimatsu," and the fifteen-year-old ones "Agari-Taimatsu," which can reach up to two meters in diameter. The rapeseed-bundle torches dance wildly, scorching the summer night sky.
